Unbelievable ease of execution of this most difficult of the 4 Rachmaninov concertos!!! No doubt she was one of the greatest female pianists of the 20th century!!! Thank God we still have Argerich with us today!!!

I see just the Argerich's technique and approach, but much earlier than Argerich. She has a rarely precious sound, so rarely met. And Pires' viral accident with the wrong concerto, so much earlier. Everything I find from de Larrocha is simply mindblowing, the Chaconne is unsurpassed, and what's to be said of Albeniz... I hope there are other videos to see more, the world needs to know this, needs to know this kind of musicienship and pianism once existed. Thank you for sharing this with us, really!

To say "they were wrong to indicate" means they made an ethical mistake. For example, we might say, "They were wrong to take the donations and spend them on luxury items." What you mean is "They were wrong about which concerto she was going to rehearse. She's a genius, whatever the circumstances.

I heard her I believe in the 1980’s play books I and II of Iberia at the Tanglewood summer festival . it was a beautiful, full moon evening casting magical shadows on the landscape and although I knew I should have remained in my seat with visual as well as aural attention to this great artist, I left the open air auditorium and wandered the grounds with the music still clearly audible creating an unforgettable experience. An treasure that remains. Thank you Madame de Larrocha.

Such a joy to hear! I wish that there was a recording of Alicia de Larrocha performing the Brahms Piano Quintet in f minor, Op. 34. I heard her perform it in the mid-90's (I believe it was with the Tokyo String Quartet) in New York and it was phenomenal!

Es una pieza increíblemente hermosa para ser de una niña de 12 años.

Alicia de Larrocha es sin duda la mejor pianista mujer de las que existe grabación. Su sonido era cálido, sólido, profundo. Sus interpretaciones eran muy musicales. Su especialidad era la música española, en la cual es inigualable. Diría que está a la misma altura de Arthur Rubinstein. Al igual que Arrau, una de sus mayores virtudes como intérprete era su buen gusto. Arrau tocaba el piano como un caballero; Alicia de Larrocha, como una dama. Era una pianista con clase, una reina del piano. Me alegra que se haya hecho el trabajo de recopilar y publicar todo el material de esta gran artista.

Absolutely flawless!

She really was one of the best pianists I ever heard. The way when playing a lot of notes with her right hand, and suddenly grasping a lower note with her thumb is amazing. She really excelled in the Spanish piano music, and performed these works throughout the world. As far as I know she recorded both Iberia as well as Goyescas four times.

I obtained a score of this piece yesterday and attempted to sight read it (quite unsuccessfully)…this music truly requires the coordination of an acrobat (like that required for Iberia and Goyescas)…I think it’s why she excelled in this kind of music (and whatever else she played)…and I think her tiny hands were more of an asset than a hindrance in her career…my admiration for this artist continues over 30 years since I first heard her in recital.

Unquestionably a great and original pianist, although in this recording she does not come so close to Chopin's musical characteristics. The music and rhythms have more the flair and temperament of Spanish dynamics, pulsating Spanish castanets etc...stylistically open up in the imagination, haha. As a result, the tonal form of expression typical of Chopin, his more "cautious" tonal sensitivity, so to speak, is indeed somewhat lost. But of course you can also play it the way she does. Above all because she does indeed serve up the most captivating, highest pianism.
